SUMMARY:How to Help Borrowers Struggling with Student Loan Debt
DESCRIPTION:Student loan debt is a growing crisis in North Carolina\, and demand for help for student loan borrowers far outstrips available resources. \nTarget Audience: Credit and housing counselors\, legal service providers\, and others working with borrowers in North Carolina who may be struggling with student loan debt. \nGoal: Equip direct service providers with the tools necessary to help student loan borrowers struggling with debt. Practitioners will learn the basics of student loan debt\, including types of student loans\, repayment options\, default\, discharge\, and strategies to deal with student loan servicers. \nAttendees will also learn how to spot potential legal issues\, network and share information with others who work directly with student loan borrowers\, and come away with practical\, tangible resources on how to help navigate the world of student loan debt. \nTrainers: UNC School of Law’s Consumer Financial Transactions Clinic\, under the direction of Kate Sablosky Elengold\, Clinical Associate Professor.
