Elizabeth Scott is a Partner at Williams Mullen. She also serves as a member of the North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Commission; in that capacity, she works to improve the legal system and make it more accessible for low income individuals.<\/p>\n

Through her role on the Commission, Elizabeth learned of the work of the NC Pro Bono Resource Center, and reached out to Resource Center staff to organize a three-firm driver\u2019s license restoration training and pro bono work session. The training was held at Williams Mullen with attorneys and paralegals from Williams Mullen, Poyner Spruill and Parker Poe participating. According to Elizabeth, \u201cBeing involved with the joint firm training and pro bono project was a lot of fun. The Pro Bono Resource Center made it all possible and very easy for the three firms in one building.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elizabeth is dedicated to pro bono because she finds it spiritually rewarding to help those in need. \u201cI truly believe that the Court system should be accessible to all. Unfortunately, many are unable to afford a lawyer and lose rights, freedom, and money as a result,\u201d writes Elizabeth. \u201cPro bono [legal] services make the legal system accessible for all, not just those who can afford it.\u201d Elizabeth urges attorneys to get involved in pro bono projects: \u201cI encourage everyone to check out www.ncprobono.org or call the NC Pro Bono Resource Center for ways to become involved in pro bono service. The North Carolina Bar Association website has information on how to become involved in pro bono projects as well.\u201d In addition to the joint project above, Elizabeth has also provided pro bono legal services for Step Up Ministries, a charitable organization helping individuals in need.<\/p>\n
